Week 5: Arizona

Well, the weeks are blending together, but Arizona was basically Week 5 of our adventure. Which was about the first week of October. And what a week it was. So far there are two places in we've visited that we somewhat, just a little bit, almost considered just staying: the area south of SF, and the area around Sedona. Both are incredibly beautiful and dotted with cute unique little towns.

Well, not all of our campsites are so nice. But once we got over the sketchy-ness of this RV camp on Route 66 en route to AZ, we realized how classically cool it was.

Truck side breakfast. Who needs a table?

Look who showed up on the roadside in CA! Joshua Trees.

So I'd always heard Sedona was amazing.  We didn't see javalinas or snakes, but other than that it didn't disappoint.  The rocks are really red and the hikes are amazing.   The buildings in town are all the same color as the rocks and are short so they blend in, even the few chain stores there.

And then we headed south.  There found one swimming hole near our campsite and spent a hot afternoon there.

Our camp near Phoenix was in the saguaro forest, so we spent a few days and nights here.  There were lots of quail, and coyotes howling in the night amazingly close by, and tons of cool lizards.  Jackrabbits are very strange creatures indeed, and hard to get a picture of.

The evenings were best, even in October it got into the 90's in the afternoons.  Sunset walks have become the norm in the desert, and we even were up early enough for a sunrise walk once.

Then it was time to rearrange before heading to New Mexico.

We got to our campsite in NM in the evening and were greeted by a rattlesnake.   The next morning while cooking breakfast a patch nosed snake crawled by.  Amy was a good sport.

Happy Patrick

And lastly, below are some notes about the trip thus far. Next up NM then to Austin, TX. Hopefully it's a little cooler there.....
